Intelligent SecuritySystem

A smart security system that could detect direction and motion to allow the user to determine to arm or disarm their alarm.

Overview:

In my 2018 internship with Comcast, I spearheaded the design and development of a pioneering all-in-one door and motion sensor prototype. This innovative device aimed to redefine home security dynamics by integrating a motion-detecting mechanism that automatically disengages the alarm system upon detecting motion inside, prior to any tampering with the door sensor.


Problem Identification:Traditional home security systems pose significant limitations in user convenience and efficiency, notably:

  • Manual Disarming: The necessity for manual system disarming before stepping out, a cumbersome task when hands are full or in urgent situations.

  • False Alarms: Common instances like pets moving at night could trigger false alarms, causing unnecessary disruption.

  • Lack of Adaptive Sensing: Existing systems fall short in dynamically adjusting security settings based on real-time indoor motion detection.


Solution Strategy:The prototype addresses these challenges by offering:

  • Automatic Alarm Suspension: Through motion detection inside the home, the system autonomously pauses the alarm before the door is opened, thus eliminating manual disarming.

  • Intelligent Motion : It can discern between routine indoor movements and potential unauthorized entries, significantly reducing false alarms.

  • Custom Suspension Settings: Users gain the flexibility to personalize the alarm suspension duration via the Xfinity Home Hub or mobile application, enhancing adaptability to individual lifestyle needs.
